Lineup

Free and open source, for Windows 10 and 11

Headset and its mic. Speakers and the webcam. One click.

Lineup pairs an output with an input. Pick a profile from the tray or a hotkey, or let it switch by itself when the headset connects or Discord opens.

Version 0.1.1, about 2.5 MB, installs without admin rights.

The real flyout, running in your browser. Click a profile, or press Ctrl+Alt+1 and Ctrl+Alt+2.

Windows switches one device at a time.

Change the output in Windows and the microphone stays where it was. You join a call talking into the headset while the other side hears your laptop mic. Lineup treats output and input as a pair, the way you actually use them, and the tray icon always shows which pair is on.

It switches before you remember to.

  1. CtrlAlt1

    A shortcut for every profile

Plus one shortcut that cycles through all of them, skipping devices that are off.

  2. Turn on when connected

Put the headset on and its profile takes over. Bluetooth and USB both count.

  3. While an app is open

Discord, Zoom or Teams starts, the call profile comes in; the last one closes, you go back.

  4. A fallback when a device leaves

The headset dies mid-game and the next available profile steps in instead of silence.

Names you recognise.

Windows calls it a long string with the driver in brackets. Rename each device once and Lineup uses your name in the tray, the flyout and every picker. Hide the ones you never choose.

Stream Deck and AutoHotkey welcome.

Every action is a command line flag, so a macro pad, a script or a desktop shortcut can switch profiles.

lineup.exe --profile "Gaming"
lineup.exe --next
lineup.exe --flyout
lineup.exe --settings

Questions

Is Lineup free?

Yes. Lineup is free and open source under the MIT license, and the code is on GitHub.

Why does Windows say it protected my PC?

The installer is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen does not recognise it. Click More info, then Run anyway. Updates are signed with the project's key and verified before they install.

Does it need administrator rights?

No. It installs for your Windows user only and runs from the tray.

Which versions of Windows does it support?

Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit. It uses Microsoft Edge WebView2, which ships with Windows 11 and current Windows 10.

Does it send each app to a different device?

No. Lineup changes the system default output and input, the same setting as the Windows sound panel, for all three roles: console, multimedia and communications. Apps that follow the default device move with it.

How is it different from SoundSwitch?

SoundSwitch cycles through devices with a hotkey. Lineup switches an output and an input together as one profile and adds rules for when a device connects, when an app opens and when a device disappears. Both are free.

Does Lineup collect any data?

No. There is no account, telemetry or analytics, and your settings never leave your PC. The only network request is the update check against GitHub Releases every few hours, which you can turn off in Settings, General.

Where are my settings, and how do I uninstall?

Settings live in %APPDATA%\com.designmastersolutions.lineup\config.json. Uninstall from Windows Settings, Apps.

Set it up once. Switch in one click.
